FAQ

  • My house isn't aesthetic, can we still take photos here?

YES! Your home is where your family makes some of their core memories - we can’t let a little clutter or a doom pile in the kitchen stop us from capturing that! I’m all about capturing your family exactly as they are.

  • What is Documentary Photography?

Documentary photography is about telling a story of your daily life - those quiet, small moments, that make your family special. That can include things like making that morning coffee, or getting dressed, having breakfast or playing a favorite game. I love it because it takes the pressure off since there isn’t a reason to perform. You get to just be you!

  • Am I limited to how many photos I'll receive?

No Way! I believe your memories should be yours, so while I do go through and remove photos that may have eyes closed or duplicates, I’ll always share as many photos as I can. More is more, am I right?

  • Will you put us in poses?

I try to make the session as natural as possible, meaning I will let you and your family just…be (most of the time). So if the kids are running around being silly, let them. If someone isn’t a big smiler - works for me!

That being said, I understand that we sometimes need a few posed family photos, and I’ll do my best to incorporate that in to our session.

  • My kids are shy, is that ok?

Of course! Before our session I’ll ask you to tell me a little bit about each of the people participating in our session so I can come prepared. I’ll likely spend a few minutes prior to starting letting everyone get a little more comfortable before we jump in.

This may include playing with a favorite toy, or telling me about a special friend. Either way, I want to make sure everyone is comfortable.

I also recommend the promise of something at the end, if you think they could struggle a bit. This could be a small toy or a lolly pop - whatever you think will help!

  • Can we take photos outside or in a different location?

These are your memories, so I’m up for anything! We’ll discuss what you have in mind on our ‘get to know you’ call and we can work through the details. All that to say, in-home sessions tend to be a little more laid back and casual. Photos at home may also help children feel more comfortable more quickly, so I can see their personality a little sooner.

But if your family loves to spend time in your backyard - awesome! Or maybe you do Sunday dinner on the back patio every night - fantastic. Lets capture that.

  • What do we wear?

Whatever makes you feel comfortable! These are your memories, so it should feel like you, ya know? That being said, there are a few things I’d recommend.

    - Neutral & pastel colors allow YOU to be the focus vs what you’re wearing.

    - Leave the baseball/wide brim hats in the closet so we can see your face.

  • What if I have to cancel?

I get it - life happens. I require a 24 hour cancellation notice, but please do not wait until the last moment if you can help it! We will reschedule based on availability. I’ll do my best to work with you based on the circumstances. If you are a no-show, you forfeit your retainer and we will not reschedule your session.
